Hodgson Sealants
Meet the manufacturer
Towards the end of 2019, County Construction Chemicals Ltd. partnered with trusted British manufacturer ‘Hodgson Sealants’ (based in East Yorkshire) with a vision of stocking a select, key line of specialist, professional sealants & adhesives already well established in the industry. This arrangement has progressed very well since, with the introduction of new technology products added to the range and the supply chain consistently reliable.
Let’s take a closer look at Hodgson Sealants with an introductory guest post from Simon Hodgson…
Bright beginnings for Hodgson Sealants
Thanks for the introduction Jon, just to introduce myself to everyone I am Simon Hodgson now the third generation in the business at Hodgson Sealants. We’ve come a long way since my grandfather started the business back in 1968 in our hometown of Beverley. At that time, we were a small team of 10 or so colleagues manufacturing putties for the glazing industry. We had gradual growth at the time and grew to be a leader in the market by the late 70s.
2nd generation and new opportunities at Hodgson Sealants
The 80s saw a lot of change for the Hodgson Sealants business; we see the introduction of the second generation into the business (My Dad Charles and Uncle Max). This influx of energy and new ideas made us look to diversify into new products and we began to develop and manufacture butyl tape. Initially this was for glazing applications however; it did not take long for us to find new markets in Industrial roofing and manufacturing.
This growth really propelled the business in the late 80s and 90s and allowed us to develop further technologies in cartridge products of acrylics (Most of you will know this as decorators caulk), Rubber based mastics and silicones.
00s and big changes for Hodgson Sealants
The butyl tape business had grown to be the largest manufacturer in the UK and we were struggling for production of both technologies on our site, at this point we decided to demerge the businesses in 2007 and create HS Butyl (Now based in the New Forest). This allowed a centre of excellence for tapes and a centre of
Where Hodgson Sealants are now
Since this point both business have really taken off in their own right. At Beverley focusing on the cartridge products has allowed us to develop technologies further, from our initial offering being mastics and acrylics we can now boast to manufacture a range of technologies including silicones and our market leading HYSPEC hybrid polymer products.
Between the two companies, we have gone from 10 or so colleagues to now almost 250. We have also become the largest independent Sealant Manufacturer in the marketplace. This is something we are truly proud of as we compete in one of the most congested marketplaces against international billion pound companies.

Enough of the history lesson here is about what we do and what sets us apart.

None of this would be possible without the fantastic team we have here, the team at Beverley now has over 70 members and without the hard work and continuous improvement of each person, we could not have achieved what we have. We are proud that Hodgson Sealants have been awarded Investors in People accreditation, showing our commitment to helping develop everyone to be the best they can be.
